What is your least favourite aspect of your choice of magical/religious practice?

I don't believe in God, not because I don't want to but because I can't. And for those who think my answer doesn't qualify... As a Chrisitian, I would have to believe in God. But because my spiritual path requires my complete honesty and belief... I just can't do it.

Okay, I'm confused. And I read your reply aloud to an impartial friend and now HE'S confused, too.

Are you saying then that you are Christian?

Lol.. yeah I think I was doing two things at once when I wrote that.. It's difficult to describe my path. I do not have a named religion, but I have many beliefs. (No Im not a christian, it was just an example.. I should have said " A christian has to believe in god, but I...)

I don't believe in god, but I enjoy the idea of believing in god. But I can't just say " I believe" because I want to. You see?

Thank you for explaining - I do believe we're on the same page, now.

Here's a fun question - what would you define as 'belief'?

I'd have to say elitism. I've strong Wiccan leanings, though I've been drifting away from that particular path for a little while...

What I mean by elitism (and...I'm SO spelling that wrong...I'm lucky to spell my own name right most of the time *G*), is how the people belonging to covens or following one strict tradition (SOME of those people, bear in mind...I've met a few open minded ones in my travels) see themselves as better than solitaries and themselves as real, where everyone else are wannabes.

*shrugs* 'S why I tend to avoid larger gatherings...I put up with enough crap from people in my every day life, I don't need to be called names by people who wanna claim to be holy and loving and all that. I've got my beliefs, and if ya don't like it, fuck off. I'm not attacking them, why should they attack me?

Valid point, that. (Although I also see the other side of the issue - if I had worked my ass off to get into a BritTrad coven I might be a little snarky towards the "I saw the Craft and now I'm a witch" style of 'wiccan' but then... we should all be snarky towards those types. Heh.)

Heh...yeah, I deffinately agree there. Fluffies deserve to see some reality. (Goes beyond just faith and that particular realm...stupid "public interest" shows...ugh) It's just when a person starts going after someone who puts just as much work into a slightly different path that it gets reeeeally irritating.

I've grown very weary of the factionalism in the trad communities. I've been relating much more to the term "pagan" than to "wiccan" lately.

Part of the problem may be that my only craft exposure occures online, these days - haven't attended a festival or even talked to another witch in person in ages. *shrug*

Do you think in general that 'wiccans' online are snottier because they don't have to deail with face-to-face reactions?

I think people in general are snottier online. In person I've come across far fewer Wiccans that I'd like to beat upside the head with a broomstick. (I've met plenty, mind you, but nearly as many as I've found on the net).

The elitism I've come across in various communities and webpages seems sincere. I wonder if, rather than the net bringing out the asshole in otherwise easy-going people, that perhaps the not-so-elitist RL people I've met are a minority.

Maybe there just seem to be more reasonable Wiccans in my RL circles because of the populations I've been exposed to. Maybe it's the region I live in? Or the ones I'm personally drawn to?

Maybe I give off a "Wiccan Snobs need not approach" vibe in person.

Dunno.
