If you were to pick up a pagan/occult magazine what sorts of things would you be most interested in seeing listed in the table of contents? (The more specific you are the better, and examples are nice.)

For starters...

Hmmm.

Current political issues relevant to the pagan population, and what/where/how to get involved.
Features on pagan groups or influential individuals. Features on various gatherings. Lectures. Cool places to visit.
Features on traditions (i.e. Dianic Paganism), traditions (i.e. Oastre rites), seasonally applicable articles. Features on various mythologies, relevant archeological discoveries, current literature.
Recipes (but please, no how-to spells. I mean like for oils, concoctions, or a great vegetarian meal).
Articles/regular columns - Paganism in the schools? Paganism and families? Paganism and aging?

What's your target population? What interests me won't interest just everybody, naturally.

starters are good.

What's your target population?

Practising occultists, witches and magicians first and foremost, I think. And then probably just pagans in general.

I've run across a few pagan magazines (Circle for example, or New Witch) and I always seem to walk away from reading them sort of dissapointed.

So anyway, while I don't have the funds to start my own magazine, I DO live near a 24-hour Kinkos. I was seriosuly considering making my own 'zine. So, I've been pestering everyone I know who is either pagan or interested in magic to see what sorts of things would be cool to include.

Yeah. So... thank you for the suggestions! Anything that gets me thinking is good.

I get all stalky when I'm bored at work...

I would ask first what interests you the most. If you write about what you find fascinating, then chances are other people will be interested too.

Having said that, I think more personal essays/articles/interviews catch my attention, esp. if they lean more towards paths that don't get a lot of attention in other publications. A hoodoo witch giving a tour of her kitchen or a CM rambling for five pages about a ritual, hell, even a staunch Catholic talking about praying the rosary or his/her favorite saint and any rituals assoicated with them.

I don't know how much of the zine you want to be just your own input or what level of experience you're aiming for (I'm assuming its not Wicca 101 stuff), but maybe a roundtable disscusion- throw out a question for debate, get variations on a spell or ritual, just get other opinions and put all the interesting tidbits into the zine. At this point in my life, I'm more interested in the daily experiences of real people more than 'how-to' stuff and lists of correspondences, but that doesn't mean that the how-to would catch me either.

Book/ website reviews are always a plus. Ummm....I can't think of anything else right now.

You can stalk me anytime, Ro.

a CM rambling for five pages about a ritual

"And after ritually purifying the space and my body and preforming the Qabalastic cross, LBRP, and ritual of the Rose Cross, I summoned the hordes of hell into my living room for tea and crumpets, taking care not to disturb the sacred markings upon the ground so that I was not in danger of being eaten."

(I wish.)

I don't know how much of the zine you want to be just your own input or what level of experience you're aiming for

Yeah, not Wicca 101. My ideal audience is people who already have some idea of what it is they're doing. I wouldn't mind having other people contribute at all. In faaaaaaaaact.... if you have any prticularly burning thoughts, I'd love to have you as a contributor, Ro.

Thanks for the input.

Sure! No clue what the hell I could write about, but if I think of anything remotely not lame, I'll send it your way. :)

i would EXPECT to see...information about the rain forest, "green" focused articles/art....would expect that nature-religious types would want to expand thei rknowledge of how technology/militarism encroaches on nature...

maybe even news about people protesting logging, strip mining...endangered beings...

Now why would you expect that?
